Kiawah's beautiful 10-mile-long beach is one the island's major attractions. The hard-packed sand is ideal for walking, running, biking, or lounging with a book or sunbathing. Build a sandcastle with your kids! The water is warm in the summer and is perfect for swimming, surfing and body-boarding.
Shelling is an exciting activity year-round, especially after stormy weather, and every day is an opportunity for birding. You could add many birds to your life list during your visit! Kiawah is a stop-off location for many species of migrating birds including the endangered Piping Plover and endangered Red Knot. Gulls, sandpipers, Brown Pelicans and diving ducks also make the beach home. Dolphins splash off-shore and endangered Loggerhead sea turtles lay their eggs in the dunes.
